Amsterdam to get freight tram

Amsterdam regional officials have voted to allow private firm Citycargo to run freight tram services in the city from 2008.

The company, which says it will operate 50 trams, claims the trams will keep some 5,000 lorries and trucks a day out of the city centre so reducing air pollution.
Citycargo says the project needs an investment of €150m, all of which will come from the private sector.
