Sniffer dog evidence under spotlight

The high court may be asked to re-examine some 1,600 cases involving evidence based on the findings of sniffer dogs, the public prosecution department said on Friday.


So far, 15 cases have been presented for re-appraisal. The problem stems from tests made in the north and east of the country where the dog handler knew what the desired outcome of the scent test was and may have unwittingly steered the dogs.
