RandstadRail safety checks ‘not ok’

Safety checks on the RandstadRail light rail project linking Rotterdam, Zoetermeer and The Hague were not carried out properly, according to a report by transport ministry inspectors.

A large part of the network was taken out of use last year after several derailments. In the most serious, 17 people were injured.
The report says the project had technical problems and team leaders had not received sufficient training. On top of this, no-one had noticed that points had been damaged during construction.
