NS must compensate traumatised conductor

Dutch Rail (NS) has been ordered to pay compensation to a former conductor who was confronted with some 10 suicide attempts and fatal accidents during his 19 year career.

The man, now 50, has been claiming invalidity benefit after being diagnosed with post traumatic stress syndrome since 2001. He reported sick after several incidents involving football supporters and being spat on.
The court ruled that NS had not provided adequate after care or done enough to prevent aggression against its staff. The man has demanded €50,000 compensation. The court has not given a figure pending an appeal.
