More EU cash for poor members, says Bos

Poorer EU member states should benefit more from EU structural fund subsidies than rich ones, finance minister Wouter Bos told a Labour (PvdA) party meeting on Saturday.

Currently some 50% of structure fund money goes to the 15 relatively rich long-term members, a situation which Bos described as ‘crazy’.
In addition, more of the EU’s annual farming budget (€50bn, some 40% of the total EU budget) should be spent on the environment and nature management rather than supporting farmers, Bos said.
