‘Holland requests German help in Uruzgan’

The Dutch government has made a formal request to Germany for help with the reconstruction in the Afghan province of Uruzgan, according to the German press agency DPA on Monday.

German minister for development aid Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul will make a decision later this week. If she gives it the green light, Uruzgan will become the centre of German reconstruction in southern Afghanistan.
Hans van Griensven, Dutch commander in Uruzgan, said German involvement would be ‘more than welcome’.
