One dead, four injured in Enschede shooting

A 44-year-old woman was shot dead and four other people injured in a street shooting in Enschede at 5am on Sunday morning. The group had been out on the town. A 29-year-old man, on home leave from a psychiatric prison, was arrested several hours after the incident.

Three other people, aged 17 and 18, were also taken into custody later on Sunday.
The suspect was in the final phase of his treatment at the Oldekotte clinic in Rekken and had been allowed to live outside under supervision. The justice ministry refused to say why he had been sentenced to a psychiatric prison term (tbs). This is the latest in a string of violent incidents involving people on either day release, or who had escaped, from tbs institutions.
The husband of the victim told SBS TV that they both knew the alleged gunman. The four people injured in the attack are not seriously hurt, police said on Monday.
