Welfare benefit claims at 25-year low
The number of people claiming basic welfare benefits reached a 25-year-low in 2006, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday. Some 302,000 people were claiming welfare last year, 27,000 fewer than in 2005. Claims reached a record high of 481,000 in 1996.
