De Vries pulls out of Senate race
Monday 22 January 2007
Former Social Affairs Minister and PvdA (Labour) MP Klaas de Vries has pulled out of the race for a place in the Eerste Kamer (Senate), after being placed number 23 on the PvdA's candidates list – meaning he was virtually unelectable.
Sources said party leader Wouter Bos had tried – but failed – to get De Vries a higher place on the list. Former Amsterdam mayor Ed van Thijn has also been dropped by the party.
