Guilty verdicts in Piranha terrorism trial

Samir Azzouz has been sentenced to eight years in jail for planning terrorist attacks against political targets. It is the third time that Azzouz has been charged with terrorism offences.

The court in Amsterdam sentenced three other defendants to three and four years in jail for plotting to attack politicians and the secret service headquarters.
However, the judges ruled that the defendants were not members of a terrorist organisation centred on Azzouz. Nor had Azzouz recruited others to take part in the jihad, or armed struggle, they said.
The public prosecution department had demanded jail sentences of up to 15 years. Rulings on two others involved in the same case are still pending.
