The bodies of a family reported missing at the weekend have been found in the river Lek near Streefkerk in Zuid Holland.

Two of the bodies had been spotted in the water on Sunday. A subsequent search led to a submerged car some time later, with two more bodies trapped inside, local broadcaster Rijnmond said.

The victims are two young women and their parents from Gouda who had been on their way home from a wedding party in Rotterdam on Saturday night.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Last week, a 10-year-old girl and her carer were killed when the car they were travelling left the road and ended up in a ditch.
