Local Elections 2010

IJsselstein goes for language test

The Liberal party VVD has raised eyebrows in the town of IJsselstein near Utrecht for putting up election posters with the phrase In IJsselstein spreken we Nederlands (in IJsselstein we speak Dutch).

The aim of the poster is to get people's attention, the local branch of the party says on its website.

'We mean that everyone who lives in IJsselstein must speak Dutch in order to play a full role in society,' prospective councillor Anja Kreileman told the Telegraaf.
