Before you can play golf on any course in the Netherlands, you need to pass your GVB or Golf Vaardigheids Bewijs (golf proficiency certificate). The exam is made up of written questions about golf etiquette and the rules of the game plus a four-hole practical test. A weekend course under professional supervision costs upwards of €250.

GVB also stands for Gemeentelijk Vervoersbedrijf or municipal transport firm.
