A Dictionary of DutchnessKinderpostzegelsKinderpostzegels (literally child stamps) date back to 1924 when the Dutch government decided to issue special stamps with a surcharge which would be used to help disadvantaged children. A charity was set up to allocate the funds. Today 250,000 children sell the stamps door-to-door every autumn when a new series of stamps is issued. Half of the proceeds go to children in need in the Netherlands, the rest to foreign projects. |
