A rising number of people in the Netherlands are switching between employment sectors, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.  Last year, 937,000 people aged between 15 and 75 worked in another type of job than they had in 2016, the CBS said.

The CBS noted that most of the profession changes were from one sub-group of a broad vocation to another such as education to healthcare. The number of job-switchers topped one million in 2008 and hit a low of 777,000 in 2014. Numbers have been picking up again since 2015, the agency said.

Nearly one-third (304,000 in 2017) of the profession changers were younger than 25 because many had part-time jobs while in school or university.

Career changers in the over-25 age range tended to be the better educated. Of them, 11% changed jobs in 2017 compared to only 6% with no advanced schooling.
