Goods train carrying LPG derails in Zeeland, no risk of explosion

It will take most of Tuesday to clear up the aftermath of a derailed goods train and repair the track close to the Zeeland village of Nieuwdorp, officials said early on Tuesday morning.

The train, with 20 wagons containing LPG derailed on Monday evening when one wagon tipped over and a second left the track. There was no leak of LPG and no risk of an explosion, provincial safety experts said.

Transport inspectors are now trying to establish what caused the derailment and the two wagons will remain where they are until later on Tuesday afternoon when the investigation will be completed.

The clear-up operation has also led to some local traffic disruption.
