Gay couple driven from their home take action against council, police

Two gay men who say they were forced to move home because of their bullying neighbours are holding Utrecht city council, the police and the Dutch state legally responsible, news agency ANP reports.

The two men say the authorities should have reacted more appropriately to the eight reports of criminal damage to their property made between summer 2009 and 2010.
The men eventually moved home, selling their home at a large loss.
They are currently embroiled in a legal process to force the police to take action against the perpetrators. They also plan to recover some €40,000 in damages from the council and police.
