Terror threat in Holland now ‘limited’

The Dutch counter terrorism unit NCTb has downgraded the risk of a terrorist attack in the Netherlands from ‘substantial’ to ‘limited’, the first change in two years.

The organisation says the Netherlands’ profile is lower among jihadist groups, and that Al Qaida has been weakened in Europe.
The warning was raised at the beginning of 2008 because of protests in Muslim countries following the launch of Geert Wilders’ anti-Islam video Fitna.
Terrorism czar Erik Akerboom told the Volkskrant that while the two main threats to security in the Netherlands – Wilders and military support for Afghanistan – remain, Jihadist websites no longer mention the country as a specific target.
