Distance runner Sifan Hassan and Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen have been chosen as sportswoman and sportsman of the year by Dutch sports body NOC*NSF.
Verstappen became the first Dutchman to win the Formula 1 title, which he took earlier this month at the age of 24. Hassan won gold in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the Tokyo Olympics, as well as bronze in the 1,500 metres.
Both have won the titles earlier – Verstappen in 2016 and Hassan in 2019.
The Dutch men’s track cycling team won the team of the year title after taking the team sprint gold at the Olympics, and their trainer Hugo Haak was coach of the year.
Hand biker and triathlete Jetze Plat was paralympic athlete of the year for the third time.
