Tristan Bangma bagged the first gold medal for the Netherlands at the Tokyo Paralympics in the men’s B 4,000m track cycling with teammate Patrick Bos.

The duo had no trouble dethroning defending champion Stephen Bate and his team mate Adam Duggleby in the tandem race, setting a new world record of 3:59.

Bangma and Bos left the Brits behind after only a few rounds, gaining some three seconds on their competitors.

It is Bangma’s second gold in a Paralympics. In Rio de Janeiro he and team mate Teun Mulder won a gold in the men’s one kilometer time trial.
