EU ministers will on Tuesday approve funding for 12 member states’ coronavirus recovery plans but the Netherlands has not yet applied for help from Brussels, the Volkskrant reported.

EU ministers voted last year to set up €750bn recovery fund after complex and lengthy discussions and so far 24 member states have applied for help. The Netherlands was one of the strongest critics of the EU’s plans last year.

The Netherlands, which is eligible for up to €6bn in aid, has not yet applied for funding because the outgoing cabinet says it should be up to the next government to put in a request.

In total, €393bn has been allocated so far, with Italy taking the lion’s share of €191.5bn and Spain €69.5bn.
