Regional health boards will be using mobile vaccination centres in a one day vaccination campaign to boost the national vaccination rate and to persuade those who are reluctant to have the jab.

The buses will take to the streets in a couple of weeks’ time, a health ministry spokesman told NU.nl, but an exact day has not yet been decided on.

The buses will specifically target places where few people have been vaccinated, such as deprived neighbourhoods in the bigger cities and the Dutch Bible belt.

According to figures from the RIVM’s  ongoing behavioural survey some 87% of people have been vaccinated at least once or are planning to get a jab.

Reasons not to be vaccinated are a fear of side effects and religious objections, respondents said.

The aim of the campaign is to avoid local outbreaks of the virus. Appointments will not be necessary.

It is not clear which vaccine will be used but it is most likely to be the one dose Janssen vaccine, the spokesman told Nu.nl.
