Dutch fintech Mollie raises €665m in new funding round

Dutch payments company Mollie has become one of the biggest financial technology companies in Europe after a new financing round raised €665m, valuing the company at $6.5bn.

The company, founded in 2004, operates as a bridge between webshops, charities and banks and processes transactions worth some €10bn a year, although that is set to double in 2021. DutchNews.nl uses Mollie to process its donations.

The company only brought in its first outside investors in 2019. The new investment round, led by Blackstone Growth, takes the total amount raised by the company to over $940m (€780m).

Mollie has around 480 employees and plans to hire 300 new team members in the next six to nine months.

The company says it is evaluating additional countries for expansion both within Europe and beyond and plans to continue investing in its technology platform and expanding its product portfolio beyond payments into financial services for SMEs.
