Police in Limburg spent the early hours of Tuesday rounding up a herd of cows that went walkabout in a suburb.

The 22 cows escaped from a flooded field in Amstenrade and wandered the streets of Brunssum and Heerlen.

Police were called out at around 3am, when residents on Emmaweg in Brunssum said 10 to 15 cows were roaming the neighbourhood.

Officers eventually penned 22 beasts into a roadside verge in Heerlen with police tape. ‘Thanks to good co-operation between our colleagues, the farmer was able to come and collect the captured cows,’ said a spokesman.

1Limburg reported that the owner of the cows was still missing five members of his herd.
