The KNMI meteorological office has increased its weather warning for Sunday to code red and covering the whole of the country.

Storm Darcy will bring heavy snow, strong winds and a light to moderate frost, with heavy drifting likely on roads, as well as low visibility, the KNMI said on Saturday afternoon.

Snow will fall nationwide, with up to 15 centimetres in the east, and two to five centimetres in the far north and south.

The wind will be strong at times, with gusts of 75 to 90 kph in northern coastal areas and above the Ijsselmeer, and it will feel bitterly cold, the KNMI said.

The Dutch football association has cancelled all matches scheduled for Sunday because of the weather forecast. All regional health board coronavirus test and vaccination centres will close their doors on Sunday as well – requiring 40,000 people to make new appointments.
