Screaming children, barbecues, wrongly parked cars and hedges make up some of the most common disputes between neighbours, according to property information website Kadasterdata.nl.

The website asked 1010 people who had recently bought a house or moved into a new rental one about their experiences with neighbours.

Of them, 25% said they had issues with their neighbours at times and 13% said they would never have moved into the property if they had known about who lived next door, broadcaster RTL Nieuws reported.

More than that, 16% of people do actually move because of their neighbours, RTL Nieuws said.

People in their 30s are more likely to have disputes about gardens and parked cars. ‘This maybe because they have less contact with their neighbours anyway,’ said Kadasterdata’s Peter Abrahamse.

‘New arrivals used to introduce themselves in days gone by, but that is happening less. This is a shame, because if you know each other, you are more likely to sort out any issues before they become a major problem.’
