A 29-year-old man has been given a prison sentenced of three years and eight months in connection with the death of his Grindr date, 17-year-old Orlando Boldewijn.

Roy B, from The Hague, had organised a meeting through the gay dating app with Boldewijn in February 2018 and the two were together for several hours on the older man’s boat.

It is unclear what precisely happened next. B. said in court that he had dropped Boldewijn at a local primary school but that he had rowed back to the boat and was going to take the last train home.

Eight days later, the body of the 17-year-old was discovered in a canal in Ypenburg, near The Hague. It is not known how he died. B. has been found guilty of failing to give aid to Boldewijn, and his sentence is almost twice that demanded by prosecutors, reports NOS.
