Teaching unions and employers have reached a deal giving secondary school staff a 2.75% rise and a one-off bonus of €750 at the end of June.

The deal, which still has to be approved by members, follows a string of strikes last year. Secondary school teachers have been without a valid pay and conditions agreement for the past six months.

The agreement also includes pledges to reduce staff shortages and pressure of work, tackle the number of temporary contracts and improve induction courses for new teachers, the secondary school association VO-raad said.
