A wind turbine on on a farm in Friesland was apparently blown down by the wind on Sunday, falling in the ‘right direction’ and missing the farmhouse but hitting a public road, the Leeuwarder Courant newspaper reported.

The downing of the 32 metre high turbine was reported to the fire brigade as storm damage.

The KNMI weather bureau had warned of heavy showers and some strong winds but it ‘was not particularly windy’ a fire brigade spokesman said.

The turbine was twin blade type popular in the 1980s and 1990s and common on arms all over the north of the country.
