Dutch darts player Michael van Gerwen won the Champions League of Darts for the first time on Sunday night with what the British press described as a ‘spectacular’ 11-10 victory over Peter Wright.
The two-day Champions League was the only major televised tournament that Van Gerwen had not won and the win is his eighth over Wright in major competition finals.
Wright is ‘a phenomenal player,’ Van Gerwen said after the match. ‘We’re going to have a lot more finals, there can only be one winner and I’m really glad it’s me.’
