Police have intercepted two thieves driving a van that had been customised to transport 2,000 litres of stolen petrol.

The vehicle was pulled over near Lelystad on Sunday night after police received a call about a petrol theft in Urk, Flevoland, with the van’s registration number.

When police opened up the vehicle they found two hidden tanks containing the purloined fuel.

The suspects have been detained for further questioning.
