Clothing and plane tickets increase consumer prices

The price of food, rent and gas rose 2.8% over the last year according to new figures by the national statistics office CBS.

The consumer price index (CPI) takes into account the prices of consumer goods, such as daily shopping, clothing, petrol, rent and insurance premiums. It does not include home prices or industrial products, which are calculated as part of the broader inflation index.

In particular, the price of clothing and plane tickets rose during the last twelve months, the CBS said.

Calculated according to harmonised EU methods, Dutch CPI reached 3.1%, more than three times the European average of 1%.
