Two Dutch companies are taking energy firms Eneco and Essent to court for overcharging them for gas since 2011, the AD reported on Thursday.

The two lawsuits are being seen as test cases for hundreds of other potential claims by companies which are major users of gas, the paper said.

The two firms, pickle maker Van der Kroon and Pull, which makes insulation material, say the energy firms continued to charge higher prices for ‘peak moment’ gas usage, even though changes to gas supply legislation would have led to lower costs.

Van der Kroon and Pull only realized they were being over-charged when they switched to new suppliers and their gas bills went down sharply.

Van der Kroon is claiming €130,000 euro from Eneco, while Pull wants around €100,000 from Essent. Neither company would comment on the claims, the AD said.
