Police cordon at the Haaksbergen crash siteMystery surrounds the murder of a man who was stabbed to death while out jogging in Groningen on Tuesday and police say they are keeping all options open.

The man, who was 25, was attacked while running on the Jaagpad along a waterway in the north west of the city. Many sports clubs are located in the vicinity.

‘We are looking at every scenario,’ a police spokesman told RTV Noord. ‘We can rule nothing out. One option is that the victim was chosen at random.’

The police had initial difficult in identifying the 27-year-old because he was out running and not carrying ID.

Based on witness statements, police said they are looking for a man who is aged 20 to 30, between 1.70 and 1.80 metres tall and of ‘southern European’ appearance. He was wearing a dark jogging suit and a cap.
