Nationalist party Forum voor Democratie, the right-wing VVD and the Christian Democrats have reached agreement on working together a new coalition to run the province of Zuid Holland.

Forum emerged as the biggest party in the March provincial elections and if the agreement is finalised, Zuid Holland will be the first place where Thierry Baudet’s party has a role in an administration.

The three parties together control 25 seats and will need to bring on board a fourth party to have a majority of at least 28. The search for a fourth partner has now begun.

The preliminary agreement covers a wide range of issues, including energy and the climate – both areas in which Forum has been extremely outspoken. In particular Forum wants a moratorium on new wind turbine developments.

The agreement reportedly states that current wind turbine developments will go ahead as planned but says the province will lobby the state to focus on placing them at sea.
