Rising property prices help boost Dutch household assets

Rising house prices helped push up the average Dutch household’s assets to €28,300 in 2017, the national statistics agency CBS said on Tuesday.

In total average assets rose €6,000 between 2016 and 2017, of which all but €600 was due to property prices. Some six in 10 households owned their own home.

The impact of property can also been seen in the average assets held by pensioners which hit €113,000 per household in 2017.

Just 4% of pensioner households are technically in debt, compared with one third of households made up of people in their mid 20s to mid 40s, the CBS said.
