Budget airline Ryanair has scrapped flights from Eindhoven airport because of the strike by pilots and cabin crew on Friday but it is unclear how many and what the impact will be.

There is no information on the Ryanair website and Eindhoven airport refers passengers to Ryanair. Earlier the airport said 10 fights may be affected, but the Eindhovens Dagblad said on Thursday evening 12 would be hit.

Ryanair operates some 50 flights a day from Eindhoven, of which 22 are flown by Dutch pilots ,and they are all going on strike, pilots union VNV said. However, the airline is likely to bring in pilots from other areas, as it did during the previous strike.

Ryanair said later that 90% of flights would go ahead as normal.

Pilots and crew in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal are also taking part in Friday’s industrial action.

By joining the strike by Dutch cabin crew, pilots hope to win a pay deal which ‘guarantees fundamental workers rights’, the VNV union said in a statement.

In particular, the pilots say they should be covered by Dutch rather than Irish labour law. ‘The Dutch demands are modest: Dutch law should be applied; no more bogus self-employment and sufficient sick pay and pension, the union said.
