The breakdown which delayed flights too and from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport have not yet been completely solved and travellers are being urged to check times with their airlines.

The airport authority said on Tuesday morning that departing flights are running more or less to schedule but incoming flights still have problems. ‘Normally we land 34 flights an hour but this is now 30,’ an air traffic control spokesman told website Nu.nl.

The problem has been caused by a break in a cable which carries the back-up communication system for the air traffic control towers. That is now being repaired but it is unclear how long it will take.

Around 100 flights were delayed on Monday evening after the cable broke.

Air Traffic Control say there is no reason to think this week’s problems are related to the massive communications failure on August 15, which halted all aircraft movements for over an hour.
