Missing Anouk, 19, found safe and well on Cuba, reunited with parents

The 19-year-old Dutch woman who went missing on Cuba on Saturday has been reunited with her parents after being found safe and well.

Anouk van Luijk, from Hellevoetsluis, a small town south west of Rotterdam, was supposed to fly back to the Netherlands on Saturday but never arrived.

The young woman, who was travelling alone, arrived on the Caribbean island on July 7. Her parents last had contact with her on July 21, when she phoned to say that her bank card had been swallowed by an ATM and that she did not feel well.

According to the Telegraaf, the girl’s parents were told that she had been found when they arrived on Cuba to help with the search. She was at the airport, awaiting a plane home, the paper said.

As yet, nothing has been said about the circumstances of her disappearance or how she got to the airport, but one report said she may have been taken there by embassy staff.
