A 29-year-old man from Vorden in Gelderland has drowned in the town outdoor swimming pool, after apparently going there at night.

The emergency services were alerted around 3am and tried to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Telegraaf, the emergency services were alerted in an anonymous phone call. The paper also said the man may have been with two others at the pool and had become trapped under the cover placed over the water at night.

The swimming pool, which includes a large water slide, is closed on Friday while police try to put together what happened.
