Wednesday’s pending storm leads to Schiphol flight cancellations

Some 100 flights too and from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport have been cancelled ahead of Wednesday’s predicted storm, broadcaster NOS said on Tuesday.

‘A storm is forecast for Wednesday January 3rd, so flights may be delayed or cancelled,’ the airport says on its website. Travellers are being urged to check with their airline for the latest information.

Flights to Scandinavia, Germany, the UK and France are among 60 listed as cancelled on the Schiphol departures board. Most of these are KLM flights, which says on its website that ‘due to expected unfavourable wind conditions at Amsterdam, some flight schedules may be disrupted.’

The storm is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 115 kph to coastal areas on Wednesday. According to weather bureaus, the storm will not die down until evening.
