Former Dutch football international and television pundit Ruud Gullit has launched his own academy to boost the skills of online football players.

The organisation, which Gullit claims is the first of its kind in the world, will support the players through training and coaching, as well as developing software tools to analyse and improve the gameplay on both a strategic and tactical level.

‘I ended up in the world of Fifa because of my two sons. One of them plays professional football and my other son enjoys playing Fifa more than playing football in real life,’ Gullit said in a press release.

The academy has initially signed three players – Floris Jorna, 18, Julian van den Berg, 17, and 16-year-old Dani Visser.

Jorna and Visser have already qualified for the play-offs of the Fifa eWold Cup, which takes place at the end of this month in Barcelona.

Last year, England’s Spencer ‘Gorilla’ Ealing was crowned champion in the event and took home a $200,000 cheque after winning the grand finals in London.
