Swimmer Ranomo Kromowidjojo has ended the year in flying form by taking five gold medals at the European short course championships in Copenhagen.

The 27-year-old was denied a sixth victory on Sunday when she was edged out in the 50-metre event by one hundredth of a second by Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström. Earlier she set a new world record in winning the 100m butterfly and also claimed three relay gold medals.

It was the most successful championship performance ever by the three-time Olympic champion and helped the Dutch team achieve a total medal tally of 11.
