The Dutch competition authority ACM said on Tuesday it has no objections to the merger of Amsterdam’s two teaching hospitals, Amsterdam University’s AMC and the VU University’s medical centre, into a single hospital group.

The two hospitals, which first said they planned to merge in 2010, will create the biggest hospital group in the country with annual turnover of €1.7bn.

The AMC said there is no reason to block the merger because people in Amsterdam still have sufficient alternative hospitals to choose from.
