A male assistant at an after-school club in De Bilt, near Hilversum, has been arrested after two sisters told their parents they had been sexually abused by the man.

The 27-year-old, who was reportedly popular with both children and parents, worked at an after-school club run by the Partou daycare organisation. He had been vetted and had a certificate of good behaviour (VOG) which is required for everyone working in an official capacity with children.

According to the Telegraaf, the man was arrested on Saturday and had worked for the company for five or six years. Parents were briefed on the arrest on Wednesday evening.

The public prosecution department said that there are so far no indications he had abused any other children in his care. However, his phone and computer are being checked.

The man is cooperating with the inquiry, the department said.

It is unclear how old the girls were but after school clubs are for children aged four to 12. No more details about the children or the exact location of the club are being revealed to protect their identity, Dutch media said.

Partou claims to be the biggest daycare organisation in the Netherlands with 300 crèches, after school clubs and other daycare facilities. The company has 3,300 members of staff and provides care to 26,000 children.
