European champions: The Dutch women’s team take title with 4-2 win over Denmark
The Dutch women’s football team beat Denmark 4-2 on Sunday to clinch their first ever European title.
Playing in front of a packed stadium in Enschede, Oranje were soon down 1-0 after Denmark scored from a penalty, but Vivianne Miedema made it level pegging a short while later.
After 28 minutes, Lieke Martens put the Netherlands in the lead, only for Denmark to equalize soon afterwards.
Sherida Spitse put the Netherlands back into the lead shortly after the break and, after a nail-biting second half, Vivianne Miedema scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute for a final score of 4-2.
