May 2017 will go down on record as one of the warmest Mays ever, even though there was ground frost in places early in the month, weather bureaus said on Wednesday.

The first 10 days of May were chilly, with frost on the night of May 10. In the second half the month, however, the temperature rose quickly and the first official summer days – when the temperature tops 25 degrees – were recorded on May 16 and 17.

By the end of the month, the temperature had gone up even more, reaching a tropical 30 degrees plus by May 27.

According to the KNMI weather bureau, June will start of sunny on Thursday, with temperatures in the low 20s. It will remain warm over the weekend, but rain and cloud are also likely.

The KNMI long range forecast suggests the changeable weather, with 60% chance of rain, will continue well into June.
