A record 11,700 people requested asylum in the Netherlands in October, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday. The figure also includes 1,800 family members who have applied to join their relatives in the Netherlands, the CBS said.
Of the total, 6,400 came from Syria, including 1,200 family members. The total number of Iraqi refugees reached just over 1,000.
The figures take the total number of new refugees and relatives to come to the Netherlands this year to 45,200, up some 18,000 on 2014 as whole.
The record still belongs to 1994 when 52,575 people applied for asylum in the Netherlands, largely people fleeing the Yugoslavian civil war.
