Johnny de Mol takes top tv prize for SynDROOM

Johnny de MolA television series that centres on the ambitions and dreams of people with Down’s has won this year’s Golden Televizier Ring for presenter Johnny de Mol.

SynDROOM was awarded the Netherlands’ top television prize at a glittering ceremony at the Carré theatre in Amsterdam on Thursday night.

In his acceptance speech De Mol, who was surrounded by some of the stars of his show, said the programme was made for a small, vulnerable group with love, respect and humour.

‘These are ideas which are sometimes missing in our society,’ De Mol said. ‘I want to make this prize a symbol for more tolerance, more respect and more love for each other, whether it is for your grandmother, a family fleeing war or a forgotten child in a care home.’

De Mol was also named male personality of the year.

Linda de Mol won the Oevre Award for her long career as an actress and a presenter, and musical star Chantal Janzen was named female personality.

The prize for the best children’s programme went to nature series Freeks Wilde Wereld.
