Ambulance workers continue strike action

ambulanceAmbulance workers are continuing their industrial action in support of better pay and working conditions with a third week of strikes across the Netherlands.

They will stop working this week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday when they will only respond to emergency calls at certain times of the day. Planned transportation of patients will not take place, broadcaster Nos reports.

Ambulance workers are angry that they have been without a new pay and conditions agreement for ten months.

They have been offered a raise of 3% spread over two years, but the FNV Zorg & Welzijn union is demanding a 2.5% pay rise over one year.

They also want better arrangements for training and no night duty for the over-55s.

The employer, Ambulancezorg Nederland, is not prepared to accept the demands.
